About
Brad Haefner
I’m the woodworker behind Texas Wood Goods. I build cutting boards, tables and the occasional guitar, and when I’m not in the shop I’m usually on a stage somewhere with a guitar in my hands.
It runs in the family
Making things is in my blood. Both of my grandfathers were woodworkers, and my grandmother and my aunt were both artists. Somewhere between their workbenches and their canvases, I picked up the belief that something made by hand, with care, is worth more than something bought off a shelf. Every board and table I build is my way of carrying that on.
Music and wood
I play guitar in The Buffalo Ruckus, a Denton band that mixes country and rock with a little Americana and psychedelia. Building guitars is where my two worlds meet. Choosing the wood, gluing up the body, and hand-cutting the inlays is the same kind of work as a cutting board or a dining table, just tuned to be played.
An eye for design
I’m also a graphic designer, from logos to much of the band’s merch. You can see that side of my work at haefnerdesign.com. Design and woodworking turn out to be close cousins: both come down to proportion, balance and how a finished piece feels in your hands.
